Stop Living Without Proper Sleep!

Sleep apnea can be influenced by various factors, including genetics and lifestyle. Individuals with a larger tongue, neck, or enlarged tonsils/adenoids are more prone to developing the condition. Lifestyle factors, particularly obesity, are significant contributors, as excess neck fat can compress the airway during sleep. Additionally, smoking and consuming alcohol close to bedtime increase the likelihood of snoring and sleep apnea.

Things you might be wondering

While we sleep, gravity and muscle relaxation allows the tongue and surrounding soft tissue to fall back into the throat area, collapsing the airway and obstructing the air flow.

Not sure how your medical insurance works? Exploring your insurance online patient portal can be a helpful starting point! Our team members are also well-versed in insurance matters and are happy to help if needed.

Your medical insurance can be used for treatment in oral appliance therapy. Insurance coverage for sleep apnea varies significantly among policies and there are key aspects that apply to most plans we see for example:

  • Your deductible — before your insurance coverage takes effect, you may need to pay a predetermined amount out of pocket.
  • Pre-Authorization — your plan may require a pre-authorization prior to initiating treatment.
  • You will have either a Copay or Coinsurance — Copay is a fixed fee for a specific service, while coinsurance is a percentage of the service cost that you are responsible for. Insurance plans typically enforce one or the other but not both.

After our initial visit, we scan your mouth with a digital scanner. A digital scanner takes multiple pictures of your mouth and stiches the pictures together to create a 3D image of your mouth. We determine the position we need to place your lower jaw to allow for good airway and then send this digitally to the lab for fabrication of your device. Within one month, your device will be ready to fit to your mouth. What we commonly see is the fit is very comfortable because the 3D print makes the fit accurate to your teeth. You will then wear your device for a planned amount of time just at night. We will have a follow up visit to discuss how your symptoms have improved. We then make an appointment for you with your physician to allow for re-testing should the physician see the need.
